The writer, Dr Lin, should give us a break. Just five years plus another year for housemanship and he is complaining that it is a hard life?

The Health Ministry is right to increase the duration of housemanship to ensure that we really have doctors who have good practical experience too. We do not want them practicing on us patients and yet receive fees for doing so.

I suggest a full 24 months for housemanship of which six months should be spent for a rural posting.
