I refer to the chest-thumping, drum-beating and patriotic fever espoused by the ultra-conservative and self-appointed guardians of Malay honour as reported here.

Umno supreme council member Ismail Sabri Yaakob says be careful when making statements on culture and religion.

I fully agree with him and support the notion that everyone should be mindful of sensitivities all round.

The problem is, it seems ‘they’ only seem to refer to Umno and its Malay sensitivities and not to Malays outside Umno, as well as non-Malays and non-Muslims.

So the red army gathered in great numbers (well 150 or so only, they couldn’t muster any more given the vast resources) in front of the DAP headquarters to protest and have an ‘amicable discussion’ on the so-called affront to Malay sensitivities over an alleged posting.

So will it be okay if DAP Youth protested in front of the Pahang mufti’s office on the affront to their culture and religious sensitivities and the so-called misunderstood clarification on it from the Prime Minister’s Department?

It was good to see the police put a stop to the 150 troublemakers from causing chaos. Even then, if these were DAP Youth or Hindraf members, surely one or two would have ended up as guests at the police lock-up for a day of two.

What a palava, what a joke, what nonsense in claiming sensitivities must be respected. It works both ways, all around, not just for those how hold power and control the purse string.

Everyone has honour, too.
