I am flabbergasted by the reaction by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Aziz regarding malaysiakini's April Fool's prank.
In the malaysiakini joke , no names were mentioned and the article was at the same time accompanied by an explanation that it was a prank. I presume this was a decision by the editor to ensure that no one would be targeted by the media and the public.
And due to that foresight, no public disorder and no witch-hunt occurred. So what was all the fuss about? Was the public put at risk at any point in time? Maybe it was not the public that was put at risk...
As public figures, politicians are talked about at all times. This is a fact and they should learn to live with it whether its jokes or pranks. Tony Blair has been called many names and yet he is still the British prime minister.
In the malaysiakini case, there was no lie and there was no victim. To Nazri, I would suggest that he focus on really important issues like helping the prime minister run the country.
We already have many other more pressing problems, so get on with the programme. Stop wasting our time and government resources on something as petty as this.
