I know not why I am indulging in futile musing;
Asking what if 1MDB did not come a knocking;
Asking what if its ramifications are so not engulfing;
Wonder what our nation will be debating and doing.

Could it be debate over Merdeka Tower;
Whether the parking charges should be doubled or tripled;
May be it is the RM650 million Tugu Park we grumble;
Or whether the Helang statute is a blessing or a blunder.

Now we say GST has come to our rescue;
But if no 1MDB, may be there is no hole to fill;
BR1M is now needed to supplement the nation’s income ill;
We have largely forgotten why a nation so rich is now so wilted.

Whether we like it or not, 1MDB is a great attraction;
No amount of distraction can create diversion;
Not even red shirts, waggling bottoms, race and religion;
Not even MCA-Nazri “pendulum”.

Too much time and resources have been squandered;
Too much concentration dissipated and diverted;
While 1MDB fiasco is left to flounder;
The nation is left to wallow.

For how long more the people are made to struggle;
For how long more the nation is left rudderless;
1MDB is pregnancy that must be aborted or delivered;
Its time has come, no more denial or covertness.
