In view of the recent steep price hike for diesel, the government must now consider the reduction of road tax for diesel-powered vehicles.

Before the increase in the price of diesel, owners of diesel vehicles could accept the high road tax for such vehicles. But now with the steep increase in diesel price, there is no longer any justification for the government to impose such a high road tax for diesel vehicles.

The government must accept the fact that it cannot have the cake and eat it too. To increase diesel price without a corresponding decrease in road tax would be a double whammy for those using diesel-powered vehicles.

It would be logical to assume that what the government saves in subsidy for diesel would be returned to the public via a reduction in road tax for diesel-powered vehicles.
