The on-going expose on Bersih’s funding source truly insults the right-minded Malaysians who care enough for a stable government that charts a course towards a peaceful, progressive and prosperous nation.

When it was exposed that Bersih did receive funding support from the Open Society Funding (OSF) under George Soros, the ugly truth about a not-so-bersih organisation has surfaced.

Let us be gentlemanly enough to take off our coloured lens of for-and-against anyone for a moment so that we can look at the harsh truth in the eye.

Foremost, Bersih leadership never revealed anything about having obtained funding from a man whom Malaysians have in the past stood united to battle with at the heights of the global financial collapse decades ago.

When the funding expose was pushed into the public foyer, the Bersih leadership argued that it was only a mere token sum of RM90,000 that came from Soros. It seems that it is all right to take a one-off sum from sources that have in the past attacked our nation’s well-being.

We must remember that Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah did deny that Bersih had received any funding from the Soros Foundation since the mid-2011.

And her claim of being “transparent” rings so hollow because her admission now only come not only five years later but also only after the government-of-the-day exposes the truth.

Going by the Bersih leadership’s argument, it now seems that it is all right to obtain such funding because it is only a small and one-off funding. If this is not an insult to Malaysians what else could it be?

What rubs salt into the wound of Malaysians’ conscience is the fact that Bersih even claims that the money received from a source known for creating havoc in the marketplace of third-world nations was not used to fund its Bersih rallies.

I mean, if you take out the infamous rallies driven by Bersih, what wind is there to sail their boat of trepidation?

All activities and expenditure related to the Bersih organisation is rooted in its rallies to topple a record-breaking six-decade-old government that citizens have voted in time and time again.

They forget that Barisan Nasional (BN) did not stay in power with gunboats and cannons. We kept returning again and again to govern because the citizens of this nation kept returning their unwavering support and trust in BN.

The unashamed owning-up of Bersih to the funding that has now come to the surface only reiterates what we have always believed. Bersih in summary has lied to the people who stood with them in the past four rallies.

One glaring truth

Bersih’s denials and admissions now clearly state one glaring truth, ie that there is selective justice when it comes to Bersih.

Where is the essence of universal justice if Bersih now claims that:

One, it is alright to receive funding from questionable sources if it is one-off fund.

Two, it is all right to receive such funds as long as the money is not used directly for their activities.

Three, it should not be a big issue as the sum received by Bersih is only a token sum.

Four, it is only a minute sum (RM90,000) therefore all accountability is immaterial.

For the moment let us stop at the above ‘four’ uncoloured truths. As the Chinese say, four is ‘sei’, right-minded citizens can now see the ugly truth of Bersih. The Bersih leaders’ reluctant admission certainly spells doom to their militant call for a seemingly ‘peaceful’ uprising of civil society.

You can lie once but the 1Malaysia society of peaceful, progressive and prosperous citizens will not tolerate such blatant thieves and brigands.
