Kudos to police for capture of Stephen Lee

My party members and I were pleasantly surprised to learn that the main suspect in the shooting of Bill Kayong has been caught and will be sent back to Miri to face charges.

We congratulate the state police commissioner Mazlan Mansor and state CID chief Dev Kumar for the successful liaison and cooperation with the Chinese authorities to bring about this capture. We also wish to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Public Security in Putian, Fujian Province for tracing Stephen Lee, apprehending him and handing him over to the Malaysian authorities.

Bill Kayong would have turned 43 last week on Dec 8 if he were alive. His family is still grieving for him. We in PKR miss his presence and involvement in our party activities. The native villagers feel the loss of their defender acutely. Nothing will bring Bill back but we hope that his family and friends will take a little comfort in the fact that all the suspects including the alleged mastermind will be brought to court to face the charges against them.

We hope that the police investigators and prosecutors will carry out the due process of law in good time and that there will be no attempt by any parties to interfere with the process or to influence the outcome in any way.

In the meantime PKR will continue to champion NCR land rights and to carry on where Bill left off. A solution needs to be found so that no other lives will be lost in the fight for the NCR of the people to be recognised.
