I refer to your report which quoted the PAS president as saying that the victory of young leaders for several top party posts in the party election does not mean a total rejection of senior leaders.

According to the report, Abdul Hadi Awang said that the election results merely showed the delegates' determination to ensure that PAS' second echelon leaders would be ready to lead the party when the time comes.

What nonsense. PAS members want change. Hadi should go as well. Any self-respecting leader would have stepped down after that party's thrashing in the last general election. Contrast PAS with the democracies in West, which the former's mullahs often condemn.

Michael Howard of the Conservative Party, UK stepped down when he failed to lead his party to victory in the recent election even though his party actually increased their seats in Parliament, but not enough to form the majority. That is what we call leadership. Unlike people in PAS who cling to power thinking that they are indispensable.

But this Hadi is typical of the so-called Islamic democratic systems, led by mullahs. Why should the defeated ulama be appointed to head committees? Shouldn't they be elected as well? Jobs for the boys, eh?

In Iran, which PAS worships, only 'acceptable' candidates are allowed to run for presidency. So this will happen in Malaysia as well, if they take over. Don't be fooled when PAS says they will respect the democratic institutions, like Parliament. They will have a council of ulama , like the Iran's Council of Guardians, an unelected body that also determines who can or cannot run for election.

They say they want to repeal the Printing Press and Publications Act. But it is clear that in their kind of Islam, you can say anything but question their brand of Islamic ideology. To do so would make that person an apostate that person will have to be put to death. Free press and freedom of speech? My foot.

If Malaysia is to move forward, the current government must have the guts to institutionalise secularism, like Indonesia. People must be allowed to believe what they want as long as they do not impose onto others.
