I refer to the letter Malaysiakini has become its own enemy by A Very Frustrated Reader. Although I have to admit that I agree with the writer's views that some of us have had enough of Edmund Terence Gomez in your cyberpaper recently, I must also say that some of Very Frustrated Reader's arguments against you have been overly harsh.

Before I proceed any further, let me first apologise to Gomez for my remarks. I do not mean to be disrespectful or sound uncaring about the terrible thing that happened to you. It was certainly a great injustice to you and our nation and I am elated, just like most everyone else that you finally managed to win your case against your university.

Your victory in a way offers hope for the ordinary man-in-the-street whenever he finds himself trampled by the system one day. Somehow, somewhere - with the help of the media - justice will one day be served for the downtrodden.

And I am truly glad by the way our prime minister came through for him without fear or favour.

Looking back, malaysiakini must be thanked also for highlighting Gomez's plight in the passionate way they did. The case didn't appear to get an equal publicity in our conventional newspapers.

I even dare say that by highlighting the case, malaysiakini played a key role in Gomez's victory and I'm sure many other Malaysians will agree with me on this.

As to the writer's comments that this online daily possesses '... a bad editorial policy of glorifying an individual, or quoting and re-qouting some individuals and sources until the rest of us are sick of hearing their names', well, I must say this is an exaggeration.

If the above were true, then I think your e-newspaper would have died a natural death long ago.

However, A Very Frustrated Reader does have some good points in suggesting more in-depth coverage be done on human interest topics in addition to your political takes.

That's as much that I will concur with the writer. The rest is just plain nonsense - you don't sound like the DAP, you don't parrot politicians, and you don't puff up news stories.
