It has been reported that a number of bigwigs from the ruling party may be facing the music for money politics. It would seem that Pak Lah has at last found the political will to reform Umno and get rid of tainted members who had used money to win political posts.

The rebranding of Umno to reflect that of a party which commands respect in the Barisan Nasional will only happen if there is political and moral will to rid the party of money politics and abuse of power.

The names of the 'big fish' who will be hauled before the Umno Disciplinary Board is currently being hotly speculated by all and sundry. Hopefully, the names will be officially revealed and the party's disciplinary team will act without fear and favour in meting out suitable punishment to the guilty parties.

At last Pak Lah is wielding the big stick to rid the party of tainted leaders and one hopes and prays that come the next Umno elections, there won't be whispers of certain candidates splashing money around to secure votes.

A stop must be put to these corrupt leaders who would have no qualms in selling the country to the highest bidder in order to remain in office and enrich their families, their cronies and their ardent sycophants.

I suppose those Umno big shots who won through money politics during the last party election must having sleepless nights thinking about their political future. I say let justice prevail for once Umno cleans up it act, the rest of its partners in the BN coalition, the government departments and the private sector can follow suit.

Umno needs to chop off a few big corrupt heads to show the public that it is serious in dealing with money politics. It must demonstrate that the party's slogan about a clean and honest government is not just rhetoric to win votes.

Umno and BN will face the electorate come 2009 at the latest and if public concerns on depleting government coffers, corruption and abuse of power are not addressed, there could be a big swing in the way the votes go.
