When the ex-deputy prime minister accused the ex-prime minister of once owing 70 percent of TV3 recently in a BBC interview , Dr Mahathir Mohamad was reported to have said that he may have owned the shares in his capacity as Umno president.

Now, that speaks a lot doesn't it? If we refresh our memory, TV3 was the first television station to be privatised. The licence to broadcast was issued by the then ruling government. If what Mahathir says is correct, the question to be ask is whether he had declared his shareholding at the cabinet meeting which decided to award TV3 its broadcasting license.

The next question to ask is whether it is in principle correct for the then prime minister to award a privatisation contract to his own political party. If that is not corruption, then what is?
