What a week it was last week with its political thunderstorms. First a deputy minister from MIC was suspended for three months for going against the ruling coalition followed by the six-year suspension of an Umno top gun for money politics.

The MIC deputy minister should not have broken ranks with his BN members with regards to government policy. We cannot have mutiny on board the ship helmed by the prime minister. Any disagreement should be sorted out behind closed doors while solidarity should be shown when discussing government policy in parliament.

Leave the opposition to the opposition members; they are elected and paid to do that job.

However, the MIC deputy minister must thank his lucky stars that he is only suspended for three months compared to the Umno bigwig who political career is all but over.

The writing was on the wall for Mohd Isa Samad. The best thing that he can do for his party is to resign gracefully. Hopefully, lessons will be learned by other BN members in that paying for your votes will only entail a short-term victory. Your sins will catch up with you later as the saga of the federal territories minister has shown.

First blood has been drawn and tongues are a-wagging about other Umno stalwarts who will face the party's disciplinary board soon for money politics. Let the curtain fall on these tainted members no matter how high-ranking they are. Corrupt leaders will sell their country down the river to remain in office.

Kudos to the prime minister for having the political will to fight corruption and abuse of power big time to cleanse the party as it will benefit the country in the long run.

Surely we do not want to follow the footsteps of other Third World countries whose leaders have turned a blind eye to these scourges resulting in stagnant economies and a suffering populace.
