We are very glad that Chua Jui Meng has finally agreed to challenge Ong Ka Ting for the MCA presidency. We now have much hope for the Chinese people and the MCA party.

It takes great courage to challenge the incumbent as far as Malaysian politics and the MCA are concerned. The incumbent president has all the advantages and privileges in his favour. There are plenty of sycophants to suck up to the president.

However, Jui Meng has the vision and the courage and even faced up against Ling Liong Sik in the Nanyang newspaper issue. It was quite obvious that Dr Mahathir Mohamad had tried to gag and silence the Chinese press. He was controlling the Nanyang Siang Pau , The Star and others through Ling.

Jui Meng was willing to risk everything, including his political career, to defend the people's rights to free expression. The delegates must now not abandon him in his crucial hour of need.

In the 50s and 60s, most of the MCA delegates were semi-literates 'towkays' and shopkeepers. They blindly voted in the incumbent president. However, the present delegates are all educated and can think for themselves.

I hope they will wisely choose the right candidate for president. Do not ever choose the wrong guy, one who is useless and cannot represent the interests and aspirations of the Chinese people.

The delegates must have the courage to tick off division heads if they are instructed to vote for Ong Ka Ting, the present president and Chan Kong Choy, his deputy. The division heads may have struck a deal with Ong and Chan but what will the delegates get? Nothing.

The power of the vote is in your hands. Therefore vote wisely. Do not let the party down.
