Just like many disgusted Umno delegates to the recent general assembly, I too, feel very unconvinced about Rafidah Aziz's explanation on how this game of issuing APs is being played.

Rafidah Aziz is more interested in tracing how the APs were distributed and evaded questions like why only a selected few were given thousands of APs; to what extent were these APs abused and how has the issuance of APs jeopardised the development of our local auto industry.

She evaded the question of Proton and bluntly replied: 'Proton? That's not under my ministry; it's under Khazanah Nasional, under the party president. Maybe Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi can clarify.'

But the prime minister refused to take her bait and avoided the issue in his winding-up speech. Even the ex-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's accusation that certain foreign-made cars were being imported at below cost was not explained.

It isn't easy for any individual or company to secure the sole rights to import cars from principal companies overseas, unless this individual or company has the strong backing of the minister or the government. The principal companies aren't foolish enough to issue right of import to any Ali, Ah Chong or Muthu (or unknown companies) for that matter.

But for the last two decades, the fact that only these 'sacred cow' companies and individuals got the exclusive rights to APs must have insulted the delegates' intelligence. Indirectly, Rafidah is telling us that unless you are not one of these 'scared cows', don't ever dream of any APs.

Finally, Rafidah Aziz had the guts to say: 'In this AP business, I've been wronged too much.' She has not been wronged, she is wrong. She has always run away from the truth.
