The recent haze is the worst I have experienced. I live in Sungai Buloh, Selangor and the visibility here is most definitely less then one kilometre, it is more likely between 500 to 600 metres. This here, in a residential area.

Over the years, there seem to be a trend to this occurrence. It happens mid year, during the hot weather which of course contributes to better burning of farmland and jungles. We are always quick to blame our neighbours but we should look at our own backyard.

As we are all very well aware, we, too, do open burning of farmland and jungles. The amount of land being cleared for housing projects around Shah Alam and Sungai Buloh is frightening.

One day you see a green hill full of trees, three days later you see a brown hill, seven days later, what hill?

Pretty soon the only green lungs, as we so commonly put it, will be the water catchment areas. Now seriously, do you think you are going to get any rain there?

But coming back to the topic, what are the authorities including NGOs going to do about the haze? Please don't get hazy, we need solutions.

I am no expert, but personally I would think there should a limit to construction and deforestation activities. Reducing vehicles exhaust emissions would also help.

And what about cloud seeding? If this is possible, it will definitely help. Please don't bring up cost of it for lives are at stake. Besides, the extra amount we are paying for petrol and diesel should help meet the cloud-seeding costs. The former is an increase in revenue not budgeted for by the government.
