Nick Adam Khairil Chan's view that Islam need not be interpreted in the context of the present reality and modernity smacks of narrow philosophical intellectualism. Absolute truth should be true in any situation.

In the context of knowledge explosion in biotechnolgy, computer and quantum physics (and mind you, time is perhaps the only limitation of knowledge expansion and acquisition) Islam should also be looked at from this perspective.

Darwinian evolution is at best a rudimentary theory. But evolution has now almost become a fact; the missing links have been pieced together from time to time. Besides, there are a number of ways one can look at evolution.

Look at the DNA; all living creatures have the same DNA save for the permutations of the nucleic acid bases. So a mosquito or a bacteria or a worm all have the same DNA as a human being.

So from the DNA point of view, the evolution scheme of things has become a seamless continuum.

And so indeed, Islam needs a modern interpretation.
