Far too many of us are quick to blame others of different racial groups or whatever for our own problems which are most probably caused by our own making. Taking responsibility for one's own life and destiny appears to be not part of the Malaysian culture even among many who appear to be educated and especially erudite.

Take the P Ramasamy and Edmund Terence Gomez sagas. The hysterical froth that was spewed could only be matched by the incendiary implications in terms of racial slants the letters posted here contained.

What was obvious was the lack of substantive analysis in many of them. Equally obvious was the fact that for some, denial has degenerated into delusion. Malaysiakini as a forum for the responsible, well-informed and well considered has all but been abused.

But now finally, some comments from Gomez that the alleged discrimination in our universities is in fact quite non-discriminatory, a Malay academician could well be a victim as much as a non-Malay one.

This, of course, does not stop bigoted, racial spews and innuendos which we can still read. So the likes of P Uthayakumar , my advice at the end of the day is that despite whatever spews from our mouths, we still need to face ourselves in the mirror at the end of the day and be honest with ourselves for our own intellect and our own sense of integrity and self worth.

That is the true measure of a man as an individual.
