I think it is time to take hold of the bull by the horns. MAS, even after a huge government bailout that put it in a very strong operating position, posts a massive first quarter loss. It is easy to blame it on rising fuel prices, but remember that AirAsia can still make a profit.

In the past, there was no yardstick to measure MAS' performance but now we have. Of course, MAS will bemoan the fact that they have to service unprofitable local routes, etc but these are lame excuses. Every Malaysian who has boarded a MAS plane will tell you it is their second choice and there is plenty of wastage for all to see.

It is time to change the entire block of MAS management, including the board members. I put it to all Malaysians and the government - CEO after CEO has been roped in to manage and run MAS using all forms of methodology, and all have failed.

I guess it is right to demand that AirAsia's Tony Fernandez be given a chance to have a go. After all, what more wrong can anyone do?
