LETTER | Majlis Rangkaian Kesatuan Sekerja Antarabangsa Malaysia (UNI - Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI MLC) have received numerous complaints from female hotel employees where they have been told by their management that they are not allowed to wear a headscarf (hijab) while at work.

Similar incidents have also been experienced by students in the hospitality and tourism courses. They have been instructed to remove their headscarves before going on internships. If this instruction is not followed, the interns will not be accepted to do their internship.

This instruction by hotel managements has created a negative impact on the outlook of a female Muslim staff who wears a headscarf outside working hours but not during working hours. The perception of these employees has also created a negative impression on the public and their families...
