LETTER | Nov 23, 2017 marks the second-year anniversary of my beloved mum's departure as a result of cancer.

They say time heals all, but seriously when it comes to your mother, it kind of doesn't. The thoughts and memories are constantly there.

I am not sure whether it is normal not to be your usual self as one's mother's death anniversary is nearing. It probably is understandable not to be. Constantly gazing away and feeling down. It will get better, I tell myself.

Whatever the reason is that tore us apart, I only know that my mum is in a better and peaceful place. Surely.

So many things that I didn't get to express to her when she was alive, perhaps that is my only regret.

Somehow I console myself by knowing that a mother always knows a child's love even though it is not said out loud.

Well, for those who still have time, don't hesitate. We take people for granted sometimes, and the simplest of words or gestures of affection are often overlooked.

Cancer is heartbreaking, to say the least. I am very grateful for the staff of Hospis Malaysia who were really there when they were needed the most.

In this instance, I am making a plea to Malaysians to donate to this wonderful charitable organisation to ensure that they are able to fund their acts of kindness in the future. It is my humble opinion that Hospis Malaysia should be given more coverage, publicity, funding and assistance.

Kindly visit their website and download the donation forms.

Malaysians can also donate to Hospis Malaysia (Maybank A/C No : 5141 3212 1211).

In loving memory of my mom Baby Manickam and beloved Aunty Trudy.
