The whole episode of the AP issue, from the manner it was raised and debated in Parliament to how members from the House reacted and tolerated Rafidah Aziz's explanation tells us that the democratic process in this country has failed badly.

It has failed because of the overwhelming representation by the ruling government in the House of Representatives of more than 85 percent. On top of this, the minority members of the opposition are quite divided and have completely failed to adopt a united stand that is strong enough to dig out the heart of the AP matter.

The ruling party acted like a pack of wild wolves, more concerned in protecting its besieged members rather than bearing out the truth and taking appropriate measures to uphold it.

The opposition was satisfied only in making loud remarks but was ill-prepared to make any probing cross-examination of the issue. They appeared to be desperately trying to maintain their minimum credibility and lacked drive to fight it out.

If this situation is allowed to persist, it would not be for long that a smart cookie like Rafidah to be allowed to escape with murder (meant as a figure of speech).

We are all very sad that the truth has become more obscured under the leadership of Pak Lah - the very person who had promised that he would not compromise his principles, which include upholding the truth and honesty.

Survival and credibility appear to have taken the front seat both for the ruling party and the opposition alike with truth and good governance just catchy election slogans.

We, as the electorate, have also failed in deciding on the right composition of representation in Parliament and on the right people who should represent us.
