LETTER | To Premesh, Steven, Zunar and the rest of the respectful folks of Malaysiakini,

I started reading your publication since its inception during the Reformasi days.

Over the years, I've written, and you've listened, responded, and made improvements.

It was absolutely brave, and most of all, very hard for you to have survived.

I want to thank you all for being there - exposing, providing news and views that no one else dared to publish, and being able to survive it all.

You dared to set up a paywall to keep independent - that's principled.

Some didn't survive, and some defected, some resurrected, and then died again.

Some just sold themselves off.

You've been through the darkest of times, and now have emerged victorious.

Now, the dawn of the new era makes you not an “alternative” media anymore.

You are now part of the mainstream - together with the still-existing propaganda media.

I hope you will continue to walk brave, principled, independent.

Keep snooping, keep independent, keep your souls, keep your bravery.

Keep guarding.

Thank you, thank you for emerging, and being there!
