I note with interest the letter describing the conditions of Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Brickfields ( What are we doing to our children? ). What a coincidence that I also happen to have attended this school albeit 41 years ago.

I believe as letter writer pointed out that there was Brickfields 1 and 11 with them alternating the morning and afternoon sessions. It is with a sense of regret that I read the downfall of such a good educational establishment. I have very fond memories of the teachers over the six years I spent there and also the excitement we all experienced when sports day neared and all the training that went into it. I also remember being divided into 'houses' with corresponding colours attached to them.

It was a time when as children we mingled freely with our fellow Malaysian children oblivious to the racial prejudices and politics we would later grow to learn. I have nothing but great memories of everybody visiting each other's homes for all the religious celebrations and enjoying the wonderful Malaysian food that was served all through the day. What a shame that we have grown up and have to live with the grown-ups!
