LETTER | The emir of Qatar will soon be in Malaysia for an important state visit.

While Malaysia could benefit from Qatar's wealth, we should not forget about its repeated human rights violations, especially poor conditions for its foreign workers.

Qatar's public relation efforts should not hide the truth.

According to The Independent of London, workers employed for the Fifa 2022 World Cup "are slaves" not building stadiums, but mausoleums.

As the Guardian recently revealed, the conditions are not improving with Asian workers still paid only about 40 pounds per week:

In 2018, this is unacceptable.

Malaysian authorities should speak clearly to Qatar's emir - respect Asian workers.
