The recent suspension of Sarawak Tribune is a major blow to English news readers in the state, not to mention the lost of hundreds of jobs of innocent workers in the 60-year-old paper. English news coverage of Sarawak is already scarce. The only other English newspaper in existence now is Borneo Post .

There is hardly any news articles on Sarawak in the two national papers, the New Straits Times , the Star and on prime-time TV. Even if you have the luxury to get on the Internet, news on the state is completely non-existent. To English readers, the banning of Tribune contributes further to this news blackout. It is also a shot in the foot for the state government because the Tribune is one of the ways to distribute information and government policies to the public. Now they are deprived of that means.

I fully agree that the people involved in the reproduction of the caricature must be severely dealt with within the full arm of the law, but deal with the people involved, not the newspaper itself. It is unfortunate that just because of a few rotten eggs, the goose had to be slaughtered.
