The papers recently carried the news about a CEO of a company being charged for allegedly accepting bribes in view of granting contracts to particular parties.

Is it only me or did anyone else also wonder why the other party who offered the bribe was not charged as well? Surely if it is an offence to take bribe then it also must be an offence to offer one as well. Or is not?

It is time that the authority charge all parties involved any in any bribing attempt and not just one side only.

This is partly the reason why bribery is still endemic as many - especially those who are seeking favours - spare no expense in dishing out bribes to gain pecuniary advantage. But when they don't get what they want, they run crying to the police and the ACA. This practice must be nipped in the bud.

This is not the first time. In another case in Perak, a couple of people were acquitted by the courts on the charge of accepting bribes to facilitate state honours. But the authorities did not charge those who sought these state honours by bribery rather than the good old-fashioned way of serving the community, state and nation.

Please don't practice double standards, I want to see both parties being charged in court. That's true justice.
