In the report, Dr Fong Chan Onn, being minister of human resources, had asked employers to increase salaries and allowances to their employees in order to meet the escalating costs brought about by petrol price increase.

This is really commendable and I believe employers should heed this advice. Prices of goods have really gone up. When one goes to the market, the topic that is hotly spoken about is the price increase for vegetables, food and fish. Medicine, too, has gone up in prices.

The poor are really suffering and finding it hard to make ends meet. Among them are a group of people who had given their best years to government service and are now left languishing in oblivion. This group is none other than the pensioners. The pensioners, too, need to survive.

Thus, Dr Fong Chan Onn, you will be doing a lot of good for this forgotten lot if you could ask the government to increase their allowances so that they can live decently.
