The decision is made and about 6,000 employees will pay the price for the mismanagement of Malaysia Airlines. Meanwhile, the previous bosses who diversified the company into many subsidiaries and siphoned off millions of ringgit have yet to be held accountable.
Unless the new management puts in place transparent and accountable processes, it is only a matter of time before things again go bad. We will only have faith when those who have done grievous wrong to the airlines are held accountable be they board members or accountants.
Why is it our government is so poor when its comes to accountability? So many GLCs have been milked dry and we continue with the same trend. Take Perwaja as a case in point. Billions have been lost yet no one has been held accountable. Why is this so? How many GLCs can claim to be economically profitable?
The plantations sector with Guthrie has become another. To top it all we have now got evidence of reports that highlight Petronas as the least transparent of global oil companies. Is this something to be very proud of?
One had great expectations from this government administration but things are really getting bad. There are no decisive accountable actions that make a difference. Eventually, like the employees of MAS, we will all pay the price while the looters get away.
