I refer to the letter by Sam where he says Malaysia has only one of the five criteria listed by him for parliamentary excellence in place; namely: one person, one vote. Even this is not really true.

Remember the practice of gerrymandering where political constituencies are skillfully carved out, using computers, so that they will optimise the chances of the dominant party winning that seat. Again, although at independence there were restrictions on the variation in number of voters per constituency (possibly to allow slightly more weightage to rural voters due to transport difficulties etc) there is nothing blocking the Election Commission now.

We have the most high-tech, affluent and powerful voters concentrated in Putrajaya, the seat of government, which has the smallest constituency of just 5,000 voters whereas there are large , mainly 'non-dominant community' constituencies in Kuala Lumpur where there are 100,000 plus voters.

So arguably, one voter in Putrajaya is worth 20 voters in an KL area in terms of representation in Parliament. In this context, the dominant community is 'they who must not be named'. We have a brazen bunch up there indeed who include people who go around asking civil servants to 'close one eye' to conceal the truth and justify their behaviour.

Meanwhile the good Umno Wanita and Puteri ladies, old and young, meekly make tea, coffee and cakes for their avaricious menfolk, and plead for more representation for themselves. We need several Maggie binti Thatchers to breathe fire and life into this cold porridge has become our daily fare.
