A small tidal wave was created and the opposition's parties managed to win a surprising number of seats in Saturday's Sarawak polls. Credit should be given to the Sarawak urban voters who seemed to reject BN's Chinese partners due to a myriad of issues.

Even with all of the media and top guns on the incumbent's side, the winds of change seem to be blowing in the opposition's favour due to younger voters who are fed up with the old guard still running the show for so long. Not forgetting abuse and corruption which seems endemic in the top echelons of our society.

It is a wake-up call for the present government to mend their ways of doing business as the winds of change may blow over to the peninsular too if corruption, abuse of power and price increases are not addressed carefully by the government.

The writing is also on the wall for the incumbent chief minister of Sarawak to make a graceful exit as young voters with independent mindsets will have accountability and transparency as their new mantra. Failing which he might suffer the fate of being voted out of office for overstaying his welcome.

Surely the strong opposition in the state assembly now will not 'close one eye' but instead raise hell if abuse of power to enrich cronies is still being practice by the incumbent government.

Kudos to the Sarawak voters who have shown the way for other voters in not being easily swayed by the easy promises of politicians. The media, too, has a lesson to learn as despite only highlighting the present government's achievements and downplaying the opposition's role, they could not convince all that what they wrote was true.
