Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has lodged a police report against Dr Mahathir Mohamad for 'being cruel' to the Barisan National (BN) government, to wit, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. While Mahathir is naturally annoyed with PKR's action, I am not sure whether I should laugh or cry.

Now, we all know that PKR's adviser, Anwar Ibrahim had campaigned for PAS in the Pengkalan Pasir by-election and PKR itself in the Kuching state election with non-rewarding outcomes, signaling that the so-called reformasi warrior had lost whatever luster he was thought to have as a vote winner.

Is this latest idiotic move by PKR - in reporting Mahathir as being cruel to an Umno-led government (and thus the Umno president) - a desperate attempt to attract cheap publicity and arrest its flagging strength?

One could provide a variety of possible reasons for its action, but none would be complimentary to its credibility. Perhaps it is now time for PKR to commit political euthanasia, while Anwar Ibrahim, who still retains his Datukship, can continue his reasonably successful academic career and circuit speeches in the Western world.

It has been agonising for PKR's erstwhile supporters and sympathisers to see the party in a state of terrible terminal illness, and its latest laughable yet sad antic has not help its pitiful, pathetic and piffling image.

PKR should in fact report itself to the police for being cruel to its once admirers.

Editor's note: PKR has made a clarification on the matter in this malaysiakini report .
