I totally agree with the letter Study loan policy nothing to be proud of .

I have experienced the situation before. I tried to call up a few banks regarding their study loans and the very first question they will ask is whether you have anything to mortgage, eg, residential property, etc? If not, then it's, "I'm sorry we can't help you on that". Then I made another attempt, asking what is the maximum loan I can get without a collateral.

The amount is around RM15K and that to only from some banks, not all. Oh gosh! What can we do with RM15K? Imagine, if someone wants to do their Masters in a local university, I don't think this amount is enough for them to survive what with tuition fees plus living expenses.

Another issue here is why do banks classify study loans as part of a business? Why does this happen? Is our government taking any action to overcome and solve this problem? If the government can foresee the importance of education to society, why is there so little assistance for students? For a Masters programme, there is little financial assistance one can get for either a local or overseas course

You might say go for a scholarship but you will need excellent results plus strong extra-curriculum points. How about those with good (quite okay results in fact) who would want to further their studies overseas? They can't even be fully independent as the banks' study loan policy is so limited in our country, the regulations are so strict and the government is doing nothing about it.

Has the government ever thought why so many students and young adults wish to further their studies overseas? Is it the lack of quality of our country's education? If so, has there been any action to improve the situation? There is a danger that talented people from our country will migrate if they are denied opportunities.

We then will have to hire experts from other countries. But if we have talented fellows in our own country why do we need to spend more? In other words, we can be more independent. In this respect, cooperation from the government is important towards building up the country's human resource.

The question remains: where can we get a study loan?
