Recently our Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi asked all parties to stop forums which discussed the status of Islam in Malaysia. This followed protests against road shows held by the Article 11 group.

However, what puzzles me is that a forum on the status of Islam in Malaysia and current challenges is to be held in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday. The event is being organised by several Muslim NGOs.

If Article 11 is prevented from holding its road shows, then I do not see why its opponents should be allowed to continue with their forums.

This is downright unfair. Our prime minister once said that he is the prime minister for all Malaysians and not of Muslims alone. Therefore, his advice that all forums on Islam be stopped should be heeded by all, Muslims and non-Muslims.

In the meantime, leaders of Sabah-based parties in the Barisan Nasional should ensure that the prime minister's call to suspend all forums on status of Islam is heeded.
