Irrelevant whether Coliseum owner patriotic
Alfredo Radzakov's comments about the government's planned acquisition of the Coliseum cinema is perplexing.
I quote: '...One also wonders why Chua is so unhappy when his beloved building will become a national monument to be forever preserved and maintained by the government. Does he prefer the building to remain in his own hands so that he can eventually turn it into a money-spinner? Does the present status of the building as a cheap venue for movie-goers make it worthy of being recognised as part of our national heritage? "
What shameless argument that is.
It is not about weather Dr Chua Seong Siew is a patriot, that is completely irrelevant.
It is about the citizen's right to private properties and enterprises. If I prefer to let my house rot because I like the esthetic of a rotting house, it is my business, sir, unless it threatens your safety.
The Coliseum is already an urban institution, it has put bread on Chua's table, it is a private property. Thank you very much.
Now just leave it alone.
