Pope Benedict XVI should have realised that Manuel II Palaeologus, the 14th century Byzantine emperor, could hardly be impartial observer of Islam. His misjudgement in quoting the medieval text, which he should not have done in the first place, had hurt more than a billion of world's population. Worse still, while he had uttered the words that hurt, he refuses to utter the only word that may heal, which is an apology.

Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) did not bring "evil and inhuman". Quoting any text which suggests otherwise would not only hurt many but also highlight one's ignorance. The Pope should have realised the existence of volumes of text giving testimonies on the "evil and inhuman" things the Catholics churches had brought to humanity not only in European, but also to other parts of the world.

Surely, all the pains brought by these Catholic churches had nothing to do with Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him). Similarly, if a Hindu priest were to vilify Jesus by quoting any of those text, would the Pope not ask the priest for an apology.

The Pope did mentioned in his speech at the University of Regensburg that "not to act in accordance with reason is contrary to God's nature". Is his refusal to apologise for hurting others with his words not an act in accordance with reason?

Has the Pope jumped into Bush's Islamophobic bandwagon? I sincerely hope the Pope would apologise.
