Why is it so very difficult to get all the corrects facts regarding the achievements of the New Economic Policy? Data of this nature is required so that we can evaluate the information and take the necessary steps to ensure targets are met (or see if they have been met) to ensure that our implementation strategies are heightened to ensure that the benefits reach the targeted audience and sectors.

A critical evaluation is very different from just criticising. The evaluation provides the basis. The figures are crunched and the objectives are targeted. We need this because we have to move away from 'race' being used as a value. Race is not a value and if we continue on this basis we will de-humanise ourselves and our national interests.

Race is not glorified by any religion. The NEP was a positive discrimination policy that aimed at achieving social justice. It was time-lined and to continue with it without proper facts and figures would do harm to all especially the Malays.

We must ensure that we do not subtly accept the belief that the Malays are less intelligent, that they are less capable and without such measures they will fall behind. If we do so, then the NEP is fostering a belief that is unacceptable.

How do we 'de-racialise' our nation? If we continue with the present process, we will de-humanise one another and when this is done, the justification to treat one another without respect will grow. Without a transcending belief in the human being we can never work for justice and when we do not do so, we not only condemn ourselves but also give no hope to the future.
