I refer to the letter Foreign spouses - Immigration should change policy .

I really agree 100% with what was written by the writer: "Please don't give us that kind of 'stare' when we come and request or renew our application. We are not criminals or beggars".

The Immigration Department officers' professionalism and attitude are truly lacking and a majority of them need a full blast of remedial training.

I am in the early stages for all the permanent residence process for my husband and I really wonder what is in store for my foreign husband and me? In my case, when we first got married here in Kuala Lumpur, applying for spouse programme visa was a time-consuming process what with the traveling to and fro, waiting in line for hours not to mention the amount of money spent plus being emotionally drained.

We had to make a multiple visits to the Immigration Department because of misinformation from the officers. The intimidating stares and treatment we got from them was unnecessary and just shows how unprofessional the department is in the eyes of professional expatriates who are willing to leave their country and channel their expertise here.

I hope the government will live up to what it promises and not adopt to the attitude of 'Malaysia Boleh' only in name. I love my country and my husband shares my feelings and we want our children to live and be educated here.

All the hassle we get from the Immigration Department does have an effect on us emotionally. Sad to say, I have been treated like a stranger in my own country by our Immigration authorities.
