Malaysian soccer has been in doldrums for a long time since. Royalty assumed positions in the football organisations without any elections. Commoners refused to stand against them out of either respect or fear of upsetting them. For a major surgery of Malaysian soccer, the below measures are recommended:

  • A total revamp of the schools and inter-district tournaments at all district levels for the various age levels.

  • Organise a proper training schedule for the trainees throughout the year.

  • Set up a 'mentor' school for every district. These would be the schools of excellence for football and will be equipped with the latest facilities in keeping with their 'mentor' status.

  • Retired schoolteachers with a passion for the game should be invited to participate in traning programmes at these 'mentor' schools.

  • Let professionals from outside the FAM handle the soccer training setup from the grassroots right up to the state level without any political patronage or interference from royalty.

  • Any FAM member or players caught betting or being involved in game fixing should be fired on the spot and reported to the Anti-Corruption Agency. This person should be barred for life from holding any position in any soccer-related setup in Malaysia.

  • FAM should retrain their coaches and managers with emphasis on exposure to new techniques and ideas in the training of new players. The appointed persons must be innovative and have the ability to change player mindsets and implement ideas.

  • Salary schemes for the state players must be strictly adhered to. If any state football association is found to be violating this, that state association must be banned for one year from all competitions organised by FAM and also loses the annual grant from them.

    • Lastly the selection of the players at any level, must be based on merit, knowledge of the game, skills, aptitude, ability to read the game and mastery of the basics.
