There have been allegations in a Turkish newspaper that the prime minister of Malaysia, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi did go to Turkey to view his luxury yacht. This allegation is now even more serious since Anwar Ibrahim recently alleged that the Turkish premier told him that the boat did, in fact, belong to Abdullah. Rumours have it that a local business tycoon 'gave' the yacht to the premier. Now, rumours on the Internet further suggest that the PM has also ordered a luxury jet worth RM50 million.

The question to be asked here is why is there no investigation by the ACA into this alleged incidents? If a local businessman in the UK was to give Tony Blair a luxury yacht, he would be severely questioned in the British parliament. It is evidence enough that in Malaysia, the executive is an untouchable and the ACA - which lies under its purview - has had its wings clipped.

It only investigates those the executive wishes it to investigate. This is true not only of the ACA, but many other branches of the government who are supposed to be apolitical and uphold the constitution of Malaysia.

One such body is the Election Commission. Year after year, the EC blatantly favours the ruling coalition as it closes one eye - sometimes both - to polling irregularities which favour the BN government.

The heads of the ACA and the EC must answer first and foremost to God and then to the rakyat as to their independence and loyalty. If they cannot stand up to the pressure, than they should resign rather then to compromise their integrity and faith.
