I refer to the letter Bravo to our police force by Dr Hsu Dar Ren and feel compelled to add my own opinion in this issue. It is true that our police managed to solve the recent robbery in eight hours and if this is viewed in isolation it will appear that the police was doing a tremendously fantastic job.

But hasn't it also been revealed in the papers that this group of criminals have been active since March 2006 with several other robberies connected to them, including the one in Tesco Klang where a security guard was shot dead?

The police only managed to nab the group after 10 months, close to one year! And that too due to some good fortune of having one of the men gunned down (not by the police, mind you! ) and the hotel card subsequently found on the dead man and traced back to the other suspects.

Dr Hsu like many others have been deceived by the mainstream media which portrayed the police as heroes who solved the case in eight hours when in actual fact it took them almost a year to nab the culprits.

It is also infuriating to see Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi coming out to commend the police in this case but chose to be deafeningly silent when the nation's crime index shot up considerably under his watch.

I am still not convinced that our police are doing a good job so far. Apparently they are still more concerned with raiding massage parlours and hiding in bushes to nab minor traffic offenders than to actually go out there and patrol the streets and bring the crime index down.

Kudos to our police? No way!
