The Letters to the Editor here keep getting better with more 'history lessons' being highlighted. My wish is only that everyone get their facts correct and not confuse the public in general. Online news are getting more personalised whereby everyone has the right to express his or her feelings without the fear (I hope) of imprisonment or detention (ISA).
Alas there are those who have yet to mature and who can debate in the right way. Like the saying 'we can talk till the cows come home', issues on race and religion will have no ending. If it is as simple as giving comments or stating the facts, we will definitely have enjoyed peace over the last century.
But no. Instead we had to endure two world wars and many civil conflicts. Humans have the tendency to destroy life which is no longer regarded as a gift from God. We are the worst of all living beings on earth. The end of the world will not be by a huge asteriod hitting earth. Rather, it will be us that will determine the fate of the generations to come.
Let's start on a small scale by rejuvenating ourselves. Understanding and living by a few simple principles in life eg. patience, understanding, kindness, tolerance and respect for each other will go a long way.
We might not have the best scientists, doctors, astronauts and engineers but we can sure have the best friends, neighbours and associates despite our diversity in religion and race. We are, after all, all creations of God only brought up through different cultures, faiths and beliefs.
Malaysia Boleh is not just for achievements in academia, sports or inventions. Malaysia Boleh also means that we can live together, work together, eat together, debate among ourselves without resorting to jealousy, vengeance, violence, anger or hatred.
