GLCs are here to serve all Msians
I refer to the report on CEOs of GLCs (government-linked companies) being rapped by participants of a seminar for not attending and listening to the views and aspiration of participants.
While I fully agree that GLCs carry a burden of social responsibility with them in implementing government policies, one must also be reminded that the primary mission of GLCs is to protect and enhance the value of its shareholders, in this case the government.
If the GLCs are run efficiently and profitably, then the tax revenue earned and income derived through many channels can be used to enhance social responsibility.
It is worth noting that while the aspiration of national policy such as the New Economic Policy needs to be safeguarded and participants are well within established government policy to ask for special treatments by GLCs, it must also be worth remembering that GLCs are to serve all Malaysians, not the special interest group only.
It is better to start thinking along the lines of national priority and total economic achievement and growth so that all can prosper. There is no need in this modern globalised world to continue looking at business and opportunity in narrow terms or outdated thinking.
Every Malaysian has contributed to nation building and all should share in the fruits.
