Sosco should return unused funds to contributors
I refer to the various letters to editors in reference to the increasingly difficult times people have in getting invalidity claims from the Social Security Organisation (Sosco). I think it is appalling that many people are put through such hassle by a system that is designed to protect workers who are injured at work.
My suggestion is for Sosco to be revamped completely and run along the lines of EPF or insurance companies where one get returns or bonuses after paying the premium. This together with the disability and invalidity protection.
What is Sosco doing with the millions if not billions in contributions paid by all of us but who have never claimed even a single sen. Surely the accumulated funds should be returned to contributors in the form of dividends of bonuses.
I think it is best if the EPF takes over Sosco's management and the latter run in the form of a life insurance outfit with disability benefits thrown in. This will also means that our next-of-kin will
get some funds should anything untoward happen to us.
It is our combined money which is being used to treat and take care of our injured workers' welfare. But if the majority of the contributors don't make any claim at all, surely the funds should be returned to them.
Sosco should be generous to the injured workers though only a small fraction will want to sit at home feigning injury without working and drawing an income.
The accumulated funds of Sosco does not belong to the management of Sosco; it belongs to all of us contributors. Kindly return to us all the surplus funds if it is not going to be used to take care of injured workers or paid out as compensation.
