In the light of the progressive development of the global human society in line with the civilisational process, the concept of multiethnic policy adopted by Parti Keadilan Rakyat must be viewed beyond the narrow confines of a racial mindset.

This transcendent global worldview which is emerging from the continuously expanding collective mind of the human race, must witness a change in the mental construct of the average Malaysian in his or her understanding of multiethnic politics that is being introduced and being painfully nurtured by the leaders of the party, particularly, Anwar Ibrahim, the icon, whom very few will deny, has been transformed through one of the most severe political persecutions - a 'baptism of fire', unique in the annals of Malaysian political history.

Indians in PKR using the multiethnic issue to fish for or to demand a candidate for elections, is a reflection of a lack of maturity in the understanding of the core values of a multiethnic worldview that is being propounded by PKR and its leadership.

It is surprising that PKR Indians are still trapped in an Indian mindset within the body politic of the party. It is not candidate's ethnicity that must be the leading deciding factor, nay, rather, the need of the situation and the ingredients to increase the chances of winning that must take precedence - not the racial background of the candidate.

Unity in all aspects within the opposition fraternity will be a crucial element in the fight to shake the foundations of the BN. Members of PKR of Indian origin must display the comradeship that is required to marshal every erg of energy that is available in the opposition camp.

The 'what' is more important than the 'who'. What the opposition can do is more important in this 'David (opposition) versus Goliath (BN)' by-election. David defeated the giant Goliath by attacking the vital spot of Goliath.

Thus, the focus must be on the voters' minds and sentiments. The voters in Ijok are the vital spot - not the numbers who come to be entertained by the opposition 'ceramah'. BN controls the voters minds and freedom, the opposition has to now diffuse this stranglehold of BN on the voters, who are driven to vote through gifts, threats, domination and exploitation.

The BN will play on the delicate issues that manipulate the minds of the voters. At best, the opposition can throw spanners into BN's works to infuse audacity into the hearts and minds of the voters, to work on the dignity of the voters and make them realise that BN makes a mockery of their dignity and their inherent birthright to exercise their mind freely without being manipulated by the governmental powers within the BN campaign machinery.
