I refer to the malaysiakini report WAO director: Raimah was under 'duress' .

This week we saw many grateful children and families celebrating Mothers' Day. It is perhaps their way to say 'Mommy, I love you and thank you for all you have done for me'. Some how or other I cannot help but feel poignant and sad for the six children of Marimuthu being separated from their mother Raimah Bibi.

What makes it more sickening is that we have the Lion of Jelutong, a senior and illustrious lawyer, who wants us to believe that this woman's affidavit was given voluntarily under no duress. Karpal Singh, Raimah Bibi was incarcerated in a rehabilitation camp in Ulu Yam when she 'made' the affidavit.

She has been married for the past 21 years and has mothered seven children with Marimuthu and has led the life of a Hindu.

Look at the big picture, there is no way she is going to be allowed to profess the religion of her choice. Can't you see that she is making the ultimate sacrifice - which I dare say only a mother would do - by professing that she is still a Muslim so that the children can be with the father.

She can sign an affidavit as thick as a phone book for all I care, but I am not at all persuaded that it was done voluntarily - not under the circumstances she was kept in.

Happy 50th Birthday Malaysia.
