Forgery-proof MyKads: Its the mindset, not the equipment
I refer to the recent announcement by Deputy Home Affairs Minister Tan Chai Ho that the National Registration Department (NRD) is now in the final stages of evaluating special laser-printing equipment from Germany to produce the MyKad.
This is really a big joke from the government of Malaysia since they haven't even solved the matter of 'fake' MyKads in Sabah. What matters most here is not the new foolproof MyKad, but the government servants themselves.
No matter how 'hi-tech' the new MyKad is, it can still be 'faked' as long as government officers have the intention to do it. It is the mindset not the equipment. Just look what happened in Sabah. There were illegal immigrants who admitted that it was the ruling coalition in Sabah which came to their village and distributed ICs for them with the condition that they must vote for BN.
What is the point of implementing a new hi-tech MyKad if government officers are not honest enough to follow the rules and regulations? The number of illegal immigrants with Malaysian MyKads in Sabah outnumber the locals.
Why doesn't the government try to find a better way to help the state government in Sabah to solve the fake IC cases? The bumiputera rights in Sabah are threatened by these 'fake citizens' and the Umno-BN had never ever carried out any investigation.
It is a shame to live in this country where the government 'closes one eye' for certain matters. Where is the prime minister's declared spirit of transparency? I guess it's all talk as I've not seen any changes since the new PM took over Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
