I refer to the letter Al Arqam: Remember that non-Muslims kept silent .

I am amazed at the reasoning afforded by the writer vis-a-vis the issue of the abuse of the rights of former Al-Arqam members wherein he states that (quote) '... the attitude of many non-Muslims is that they let the government do as they please towards the Muslim population but when it regards matters concerning non-Muslims, the constitution must be upheld'.

What was 60 percent of the citizenry, who were Muslims, then and now, doing? We live in a country where religion takes precedence even over God, I dare say, hence any attempt of action by a minority group in relation to matters affecting the majority would be dealt with severely.

A likely response in such an event would be a directive such as:

1. Don't interfere in our religious matters as you have no knowledge of them.

2. Don't question the status of Islam in the country.

3. Don't inflame racial and religious feelings.

Whereas a great number of Malay/Muslims came out overwhelmingly during the 'reformasi' era, they are obviously at peace with the current state of melancholy concerning the constitution and religious matters with the exception of a few notable individuals.
