I refer to the letter But Jawi is BM!

Thanks to the writer for enlightening us on the history that Jawi is Bahasa Malaysia. I have heard that people who are a decade my senior having to study Jawi back in the old days. My friend used to tune in to TV Pendidikan to learn Jawi.

I'm lucky I didn't live through that era as I already had too many subjects to study.

Romanised BM actually helped BM to survive and flourish. No matter how you argue it, Jawi still looks like Arabic to most people except those really know Arabic and can tell the difference.

The Romanised pronunciation of the Chinese language helps people to learn it. Now, most younger generation of Malaysians do not know Jawi and those who do might have forgotten it. I don't see the point of putting Jawi on signage when most people don't understand it.

Why don't all government buildings use the Romanised Bahasa Malaysia that everyone knows? If Jawi is to be preserved, than classes can be organised for people of the same interest to learn it.
