I think all Malaysians, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, should realise that the Lina Joy case has succeeded in stirring up our emotions unnecessarily which in the end deprived us from giving it an objective assessment.

The Lina Joy case is not about religion. She decided to renounce Islam not because she had lost faith but its all due to the reluctance of her Christian partner who refused to convert to Islam and thus Lina decided to sacrifice her own religion. Now is Lina a gain to Christianity the fact being that she became a Christian out of love for a man?

It is only about religion if her man is a devout Christian (we don't know which denomination) who then succeeded in convincing her of all Christian beliefs and teachings. But we all know that love is terribly overrated.

Whether its Catholic, Orthodox, Prebysterian, Anglican, Southern Baptist, Coptic, Lutheran, or even Scientologist, let's hope Lina is now a practicing Christain. Otherwise, she is just another fake Christian just like we have a lot of converts to Islam who became Muslims for selfish reasons like love for a Muslim woman, or simply for economic and career opportunities.

After converting to Islam, these people should have changed themselves (like Cat Stevens) to becoming a member of a universal 'ummah' and sympathise with the plight of all Muslims irrespective of race or better still, help them in whatever way you can.

Otherwise, these fake Muslims can bugger off. Islam can do without you because Islam is individual as well as communal. Its called Fardu 'Ain and Fardu Kifayah. Both Islam and other religions can do without these renegades.

Another thing is that the Lina Joy case has also exposed the secret agenda of those behind it to either undermine Islam. They know that despite allegations to the contrary, the various state Syariah laws do allow Muslims to leave their faith provided procedures are followed. Even in the Army, you can't just go Awol.
