I refer to the malaysiakini report Bus crash kills 20, two in critical condition .

I am absolutely angry and sad over the loss of 20 innocent lives. My most heartfelt condolences go to their families. On my humble part, I can only pray that the bereaved families could find the strength to soldier on after the untimely demise of their loved ones.

But in the same breath, I like to express my utter disgust over the comments by powers-that-be following this unwelcome incident.

Comments like, 'Drivers must attend refresher courses right away', 'Drivers must be as fit as pilots' or 'Authorities will come hard on delinquent bus drivers and operators' really made me sick to the core.

Do you mean to tell me that all these while rules and regulations were flouted by bus operators with the authority 'closing one eye'?

From the images of the wreckage, I can safely say that the bus driver was driving at breakneck speed. And more often than not, fatalities of this magnitude are caused by speeding.

Any highway user would surely agree with me that it is common to be overtaken by heavy vehicles, especially buses, even though we are driving at maximum speed of 110kph. As if the ministers and other top officials are not aware of this.

Come on, ministers, enforce all the rules and laws seriously. Please do not wait for another bus load of passengers - God forbid - to perish and then coming up again with the standard comments. I am sick of those comments being repeated with nothing being done and am sure all right thinking Malaysians are.
